Our Facilities
The Israeli Gene Bank (IGB) utilizes advanced technologies for seed preservation. The infrastructure includes specialized treatment and preservation facilities, devices that separate seeds by weight, temperature- and humidity-controlled drying rooms, underground freezers at -20°C, laboratory rooms, a seed collection and processing system (including quality and germination tests), and a plant cultivation and propagation system. Humidity and temperature levels in all preservation facilities are continuously monitored and backed up by support systems. Malfunctions are immediately reported via an automatic messaging system to ensure prompt response.
All gene bank operations (collection data, phytogeographic information, cleaning data, packaging, germination, field cultivation, seed orders and distribution) are documented in a computerized database. This system serves as a management and planning tool for setting goals and tracking ongoing work. The database is fully synchronized with the bank's catalog, enabling data presentation to various target audiences and seed sample ordering.
